Pet Of The Week: Shakespeare

Pet Of The Week: Shakespeare

Looking to adopt a new friend? The Washington Animal Rescue League has a new pet of the week named Shakespeare.

Shakespeare is an 8-year-old male Chihuahua mix who has gone from comedy to tragedy in a few short weeks. Picked up as a stray on the streets of DC, this little boy arrived at the Washington Animal Rescue League shy and timid. But thanks to the efforts of the League’s dedicated staff and volunteers, plus interaction with shelter visitors, he’s blossomed into quite the social butterfly. He eagerly solicits attention and affection and will willingly climb into a lap if it’s offered. Like tales by the Bard of Avon, Shakespeare isn’t really appropriate for young children but would love a quiet home with adults who appreciate classics like him.

5 Things A Bully Doesn’t Want You to Know

As the sound of school bells ringing signals that school is back in session for the year, it also means that students and parents will face some common issues. It is estimated, each day in America, that 160,000 students stay home from school in order to avoid being bullied, so it makes a lot of people wonder what goes on in the mind of a bully. Judging by the research regarding who bullies, it would stand to reason that it’s quite a bit.

“We tend to look at the situation of bullying, and not so much at the bully him- or herself,” explains Peter J. Goodman, author of the book “We’re All Different But We’re All Kitty Cats.” “But if we had a chance to peek into the mind of the bully, we might be surprised at some of the things we would learn.”

There are some things that bullies don’t want people to know, including:

Thunder Burger & Bar to Hold Burger of the Month Contest, Open to the Public

Thunder Burger & Bar, located in the heart of Georgetown, is holding a “Burger of the Month” contest that is open to the public. Patrons are encouraged to submit their best burger idea for a chance to win a dinner for two, valued at up to $50. The burger ideas submitted will all be judged by the chef, and the one selected will not only win the dinner for two, but will also have that burger named for them and offered in the restaurant for the entire month.

“This is a great chance to share your favorite burger recipe and have it named after you, if we choose to use it for the month,” explains Ryan Fichter, Executive Chef of Thunder Burger. “We encourage people to get creative, get interesting, and don’t be afraid to submit your idea. You never know what the winning burger is going to include.”
