Operation Backpack, an initiative that collects and distributes backpacks filled with school supplies to homeless shelters, wraps up tonight at the Redskins vs. Buccaneers preseason game on Wednesday.

The Redskins Charitable Foundation together with the non-profit, Volunteers of America Chesapeake are preparing area homeless students the tools necessary to excel in school with this drive.

“One of the most devastating consequences of homelessness is the impact it has on children’s education,” said President of Volunteers of America Chesapeake Russell Snyder.

Kitten Foster Caregivers Urgently Needed!

Kitten Foster Caregivers Urgently Needed!

Love kittens? The Washington Humane Society (WHS) needs your help! You can help save lives by providing space and care for the more than 70 kittens in need during this busy summer season.

In the last week alone we have taken in over 75 kittens and 40 adult cats. As the open admission shelter in the District, we never turn away an animal who needs our help, but our space and resources are limited. We are calling on our caring community to provide an invaluable, life-saving service by simply opening your hearts and homes to kittens in need for a little while as we seek permanent homes for them.
