Throughout the month of April, Sodexo employees take part in a month-long annual event, Servathon, where 413,000 Sodexo employees in 80 countries volunteer their time and efforts to give back to their local communities tied to fighting hunger. Sodexo is a world leader in quality of Daily Life Solutions in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, serving 10 million consumers in 6,000 locations daily.
Employees coordinate food drives and participate in fundraisers to help more than 49 million Americans at risk of hunger in the US.
In coordination with Servathon, on Tuesday, Manna Food Center, a food bank located in Gaithersburg, MD, dedicated to serving the residents of Montgomery County, received a large donation of fresh potatoes from local business executives at Sodexo and its Seattle based friends at Hirai Farms.
“We feed over 175,000 individuals throughout the course of the year including elementary schools. We have 53 schools we partner with to make sure 1900 students have access to nutritional meals every weekend,” explained Manna Food Center’s Executive Director, Kim Damion.
Sodexo employees were on hand to organize, prepare fresh produce, and pack food boxes to be delivered to families less fortunate within the community.
How can you help?
Kim Damion says the food center is always in need of nutritional food and volunteers.
“We need volunteers all the time. Adult volunteers are especially needed Monday through Friday to help with our daily food operations."
If you go to their website, you will find all the information necessary to volunteer or donate to Manna Food Center to fight hunger locally.
Throughout April, The Sodexo headquarters, which is located at 9801 Washingtonian Boulevard Gaithersburg are also hosting a food drive for Manna Food Center collecting kid friendly individually packaged food. Their goal is to collect 25,000 items to be sent to children in need within Montgomery County.
